The Margherita von Brentano Center is tasked with stimulating, supporting, and documenting the development of course offerings and research projects. The center particularly supports teaching and skills development in the area of gender and diversity.
As part of the General Professional Skills Courses (Allgemeine Berufsvorbereitung, ABV), a component of Freie Universität Berlin’s bachelor’s degree programs, the MvBZ offers three modules in the skill area of gender & diversity awareness. Each semester, the MvBZ compiles a list of all courses at Freie Universität that discuss research findings from Gender Studies, Diversity Studies, and Queer Studies in the Gender/Diversity/Queer agenda. This aims to provide a subject-independent reference guide for all students interested in the interdisciplinary field of Women’s and Gender Studies (and in gender, diversity, and queer themes). The Gender and Diversity in Teaching Toolbox is a project jointly organized by the MvBZ and the Chief Gender Equality Office. The Toolbox helps lecturers cultivate gender- and diversity-conscious teaching for higher education. To cement the subjects of gender, queer issues, and intersectionality in university teaching, the MvBZ organizes training courses in university didactics on the subject. The MvBZ also documents discontinued degree programs in gender and diversity at Freie Universität Berlin.
