In late autumn 2017, the gender studies community initiated a coordinated action in response to the devaluation of the interdisciplinary field of gender studies, attacks on individual researchers, and assaults on social media. The aim was to showcase the breadth, diversity, and scientific excellence of gender studies and to highlight its role as a critical science addressing significant societal challenges and real-world phenomena.

The Science Day #4GenderStudies was first held on December 18, 2017, and has been conducted annually around this date ever since. Researchers and universities in German-speaking countries participate to demonstrate the diversity of gender studies and emphasize the scientific importance of the field.

At Freie Universität Berlin, gender studies are deeply embedded in numerous disciplines. Their strength lies in the diversity of disciplinary approaches and perspectives. The questions and methods used to explore gender relations vary by field, yet all projects share a focus on critical and self-reflective scientific approaches and a commitment to socially relevant issues.

The Margherita-von-Brentano Center for Gender Studies invites doctoral candidates, postdocs, and academic staff from Freie Universität Berlin to present their research in this poster exhibition. On December 18, 2024, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their posters during an Open Mic session.
