22. Arbeitstagung der Konferenz der Einrichtungen für Frauen- und Geschlechterstudien im deutschsprachigen Raum

Auf der 22. Arbeitstagung „Konferenz der Einrichtungen für Frauen- und Geschlechterstudien im deutschsprachigen Raum (KEG)“ diskutierten die Teilnehmer*innen in Arbeitsgruppen zu hochschulpolitische, disziplinäre und kommunikationsbasierte Entwicklungen und Fragestellungen als auch gesamtgesellschaftliche Anliegen und Debatten.

Una Europa Gender and Equality Network (UGEN)

UGEN is an interdisciplinary network created during 2021, in the context of the Una Europa Alliance.
Objectives of the network are:
(1) to strengthen the nascent network of gender studies institutes/centres and scholars across the Una Europa partner institutions in order to explore research and teaching synergies, share good practice and innovation, and build collaborations;
(2) to bring the collective research expertise to bear on the pressing problem of gender equality and diversity in higher education and our own institutions, particularly in the pandemic and post-pandemic contexts.

Cooperation with the Journal Debate Feminista (UNAM, Mexico)

In the context of the research focus on sexual harassment, discrimination and violence, the thematic cooperation between the Open Gender Journal, which is co-published by the MvBZ, and the Mexican journal Debate Feminista has been established. In the joint thematic section "Gender and Sexualized Harassment, Discrimination and Violence in Higher Education Contexts," scientific articles on the topic are published in parallel in both journals.

Building Transnational Feminist Solidarities in Academia

On the eve of the fourth edition of the Science Day #4GenderStudies, we have organized the Online Workshop “#4GenderStudies: Building Transnational Feminist Solidarities in Academia” on October 20. We planned this event with the objective to connect with our international colleagues, discuss and get to know different perspectives, especially in contexts where gender research is particularly threatened. The workshop was a call for solidarity: a unified bond between different scientific and geographical communities.

TRAFO-Blog for Transregional Research

MvBZ was in charge of the thread #transnationalfeminisms of the #DossierCorona series of the TRAFO Blog for Transregional Research, organized by the Forum Transregional Studies Berlin.
The thread #transnationalfeminisms emerges from the online series “Transnational Feminist Dialogues in Times of Corona Crisis” organized by the Margherita von Brentano Center for Gender Studies at Freie Universität Berlin in cooperation with the MA Program Gender, Intersectionality and Politics at FU Berlin, Academy in Exile and Academics for Peace Germany in Summer 2020.

Cooperation with Sabancı University Gender and Women‘s Studies Center of Excellence (SU Gender)

Since 2019, the MvBZ has been cooperating with SU Gender, whose director, Prof. Dr. Hülya Adak, was visiting professor of Turkic Studies at Freie Universität Berlin in winter term 2019/20. The aim of the cooperation is to foster bilateral exchange on current topics in gender studies, in particular on Sexual Harassment and Assault in Academia and Awareness trainings. A first joint meeting took place on 14 February 2020. The meeting included two internal workshops on Sexual Harassment, Discrimination and Violence as well as Gender and Diversity Awareness trainings and a major public event entitled "Contemporary Challenges to Gender Studies in Germany and Turkey".


Cooperation with Academy in Exile und Academics for Peace Germany

The MvBZ cooperates with the Academy in Exile and the Academics for Peace Germany in the formulation and implementation of the event series "Gender Studies in Critical Times: Transnational Feminist Dialogues". The kick-off event for the series took place on 2 December 2019. Prof. Dr. Gülay Toksöz, Fellow of the "Critical Thinking" program at Freie Universität Berlin, was invited to give the lecture. The series of events was scheduled to take place in SuSe 2020, but has been postponed until further notice. Instead, the online event series "Transnational Feminist Dialogues in Times of Corona Crisis" took place in SuSe 2020.

Transnational research cooperation “Sexual Harassment in Higher Education Contexts”

The MvBZ cooperates with colleagues from partner universities in Latin America and Asia as well as the Phillips University of Marburg in a transnational research project that investigates the prevalence, forms and effects of sexualized discrimination and violence at universities as well as structural implications.

Cooperation with the Instituto de Estudios de la Mujer de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica

Since October of 2018, The Margherita von Brentano Center and the Instituto de Estudios de la Mujer de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica have agreed to discuss in a regular exchange the integration of gender and diversity aspects into teaching.

Cooperation at the IIT in Mumbai

In October 2017, MvBZ, represented by Heike Pantelmann (MvBZ) and Kathleen Heft (Toolbox Gender and Diversity in Teaching), took part in a one-week-workshop at Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai.

Collaboration in Brazil

From 31 July to 4 August, Dr. Susanne Lettow met with gender scholars at the universities of São Paulo and Campinas as well as Fundação Getúlio Vargas in Brazil.

Fact Finding Mission an der Western University in Baku, Aserbaidschan

In July of 2017, Heike Pantelmann and Sabina García Peter travelled to Baku, Azerbaidjan, in order to develop a concept for an International Summer School in collaboration between Freie Universität Berlin and Western University in Baku.

Prospects of international cooperations with China

From 27 March to 7 April 2017, Dr. Sabina García Peter, a staff member of the Margherita von Brentano Center was a guest at Nanjing University, China, as part of the ERASMUS+ Staff Mobility for Teaching and Training program.
